The Camping and Caravanning Club is the world’s oldest and largest Club for all forms of camping. With 100 years and beyond of expertise, the Club is home to over 700,000 members. As a not-for-profit organisation, the Club is committed to investing every penny spent with them on improving facilities and services for their members.

Online services have grown far beyond searching for and booking of holidays and include a range of complimentary benefits from preferential rates on insurance and breakdown cover to discounted activities and assistance with travelling abroad.

Big plans for the future.

The Camping and Caravanning Club engaged Inspiretec with an ambitious Digital Transformation Project “Fix the Web” which goes way beyond the creative development of their transactional B2C website and puts their customers online experience at the heart of everything they do.  The scale of the development required aimed to fully utilise the true capabilities of Sitecore 9, in particular its capability to link with existing legacy systems whilst providing the benchmark for future improvements and development.

Getting things moving. 

To kick start the project the team at Inspiretec undertook an extensive discovery process which involved creating a strategic roadmap by delivering creative design and user interface mock-ups. In addition, templates and functional specifications were underpinned, to map out how to bring the project to life.

Fully immersed in the project, Inspiretec’s in-house agency has worked on multiple design aspects including creative, UI and UX. Being involved in the creative design, Sitecore implementation and integration aspects of the project has enabled Inspiretec to develop a good working relationship with a number of different teams at The Camping and Caravanning Club, whilst providing consistent and quality throughout.

Creative design that strengthens the brand.

The first phase of this project focused on the critical aspects of re-platforming and migrating to Sitecore. Alongside the implementation of Sitecore 9, key user journeys were prioritised and delivered. Starting with a refreshed homepage design and new modules to enable easy navigation and to bring the site up to date. Core areas of the site such as where members join, review and amend their membership were revived to simplify the user journey and to make their experience on the site more intuitive.

Making the most of Sitecore 9 impressive capabilities.

As a certified Sitecore partner, Inspiretec has a decade of experience of building Sitecore websites for some of the UK’s biggest brands. This enterprise-class Content Management System (CMS) will provide a platform for The Camping and Caravanning Club to improve member experience. Furthermore, due to the customisability of Sitecore, the Club’s website will be futureproofed as the CMS enables straightforward customisation so that the site can be adapted and developed with ease over time to keep members engaged.

Using Sitecore comes with many business benefits, as it enables easy personalisation to improve user journeys, providing the tools to achieve both business and digital goals. The version of Sitecore used for The Camping and Caravanning Club’s websites comes with additional enhancements such as Sitecore JavaScript services.

Seamless Integrations with legacy systems.

Data from The Camping and Caravanning Club’s site-seeker search pages and campsite pages were migrated from their old website into Sitecore enabling site users to easily browse the site. The new page layout presents campsite information in a way that is more digestible by keeping the design clean and using page modules to display facility icons.

The new site has a number of complex integrations embedded throughout, that will not only provide a seamless experience for the team at The Camping and Caravanning Club who will be managing and updating content but ultimately a better overall experience for Club members. Integrations on the site include an identity service, JRA web services, a reviews API and CRM integration service.

Future developments look bright.

Following the successful release of phase one, The Camping and Caravanning Club and Inspiretec are working together on fast follow releases of phase two. Within the first two weeks of going live the site has seen an increase of 23.55% in users on the site, the number of sessions also increased by 25.90%, whilst bounce rates have already decreased by 2% within just a couple of weeks of going live.

This project is critical for us as a business to ‘fix the web’ and achieve the digital transformation that the business needs to service our members. We are delighted with the work that Inspiretec have done and can already see the impact of the release of phase one.
